Supporting Swimmers with Trisomy 21 or Down Syndrome

Thank you for your interest in supporting USA Swimmers who have Down syndrome - T21 Swim Warriors! Trisomy 21, or Down syndrome is caused by having an extra copy of chromosome 21. The extra genetic material causes problems with the way the body and brain develop which creates a wide variety of challenges. However, our swimmers overcome those challenges by receiving intense coaching and training hard so that they can swim competitively at the local, national and/or international level. Their successes are measured not just in medals, but in how they see themselves as athletes who train to represent their local communities and the USA.

How Does USA Down Syndrome Swimming Support our Athletes?

USADSS is a 100% volunteer non-profit, so your contribution will have a direct impact on our swimmers.USADSS is USA’s National Sports Organization for the Down Syndrome International Swimming Organisation (DSISO). USADSS selects a national team for international events, and offers swim camps to qualifying swimmers who have Down syndrome. These camps are affecting change and our organization is growing as we find more talented swimmers. USADSS also partners with Athletes Without Limits to host National Championships for athletes with intellectual impairment.

In addition to offering camps and hosting meets, USADSS has operating expenses for the organization such as website, insurance fees, and corporation fees for all states.
